About Michael
Wildlife Art was never a career option for Michael Demain when he left school, in fact art was not even considered a hobby and he never even picked up a brush until he was 37.

He has however had a lifelong interest in the natural world and in particular birds which have lured him far and wide across Europe and so naturally it is birds which feature prominently in his wildlife paintings. Art in itself does not really interest him and he finds the application of paint a chore but it is through his art that he can express his deep love for wildlife. Michael does however appreciate good artwork and his favorite wildlife artist is Robert Bateman who he has took great inspiration from over the years but it was a chance meeting with Steven Townsend which altered the course of his life and led him on to become an established wildlife artist.

Michael's paintings are full of light and it is the contrast between light and shadow which inspires him to make a painting, the subject is often thought of last, his compositional sense is drawn from countless encounters with his chosen subject matter and in most of his wildlife paintings he is working from experience, he feels to do justice to a painting it pays to know your subject. He also works tirelessly with the RSPB on the conservation of birds of prey in the Bowland fells near to his home and he strongly believes that all wildlife artists should put something back into nature.

Commissions
I am happy to accept commissions on any wildlife art paintings, I will discuss with you any ideas you may have and we agree a price before the painting is started, I would prefer a small deposit as a down payment but this is not always necessary with the balance being paid on completion.

If the painting has a deadline date, I will need notice of at least a month, and longer if you want it in oils.
